Paul Cosh  FGS, ARAM, LRAM, LGSM

Paul Cosh's playing roots are in Brass Bands. He learnt the cornet at his local Boy's Brigade Band in Sherborne, and when the Sherborne Town Band was formed it was natural for him to join, as his father was the founding chairman. During this time Paul was also a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.

Alongside his professional career, as a trumpet player, Paul has always maintained his links with the brass band movement. He has conducted many of Britain's finest bands including, Sun-life, Desford, Flowers, Wingates, Parc and Dare, and Hanwell, winning both the London and Welsh areas.

As a member of ABBA, he is a respected adjudicator and has officiated at the Nationals at the Royal Albert Hall, The British Open, Brass in Concert, the Yorkshire, Welsh and London areas, Siddis in Stavanger and the Belgian Nationals. Paul is delighted to have been invited to adjudicate at the North of England Area Championships.

After studying the trumpet at the Royal Academy of Music, Paul developed a highly successful professional career making regular appearances with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. From 1987 until 2005 he was a member of the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
In the world of popular music Paul worked with many stars, including Elton John, George Michael, The Jam, Bryan Ferry and Diana Ross and played on the soundtracks of many films including Ghandi, Star Wars and Superman 2.

In 1984 Philip Jones appointed him Professor at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama and on leaving the BBC Symphony Orchestra Paul continued his work there. For many years he was Musical Director of the Guildhall Brass Band and received critical acclaim for performances of much of the contemporary brass band repertoire. Paul is a renowned teacher and clinician with an international reputation and has worked with students and professionals of all brass instruments.
